
ALTA STOPS LAPUZ TO KEEP SUPER WELTERWEIGHT TITLE

MARLON ALTA of General Santos City retained his Philippine Super Welterweight Title Saturday with a 12th round unanimous decision win against challenger Dondon Lapuz of Cagayan de Oro City which was held at the Elorde Sports Center in Sucat Road, Paranaque City.
The heavy-hitting Alta improved to 7-2 with 5 knockouts in the event dubbed as "Upakan sa Elorde" organized by Elorde International Productions in cooperation with Macky Castro and North Star Sports.
Rey Danseco and Salvador Lopez gave identical scores of 117-111 in favor of Alta while judge Salvador Lopez had it 118-111, in a fight held in cooperation with Petron Diesel Max, San Miguel Pale Pilsen and ATC Wellness Corp. - manufacturer of Robust (a dietary supplement for men).
Alta is currently rated as one of the top 3 Filipino super welterweights, along with Cebu's Jimrex Jaca (34-6-3, 19 KOs) and Bacolod's "Mighty" Mark Melligen (21-3, 14 KOs).
Alta won the vacant Philippine Junior Middleweight title after beating Benedict Fontines last June 18 at the Elorde Sports Center in Paranaque City.
His most riveting win to date has been his 2nd round technical knockout triumph over Japanese fighter Naozumi Tsuchiyama last August 2010 in Cebu.
In the other bouts, Ryan Bito of Leyte defeated Roy Albaera of Laguna via 8th round unanimous decision in the undercard match, Joe Maxian of Nagsulang, Dumarao, Capiz beat Vic Racoma of Maligaya, Tarlac in the third round, as well Gabriel Altarejos of Sucat, Paranaque bested Jason Berwela of Las Pinas via 6th round unanimous decision.
In the curtain raisers, William Amora of Caranglan, Nueva Ecija nipped Manny Talisic of Tanza, Cavite (1st round TKO); Kenjie Moninio of Bamban, Tarlac crushed Dodoy Alpormina of Las Pinas (1st round KO) and Pablo Gabunya of Puerto Princesa, Palawan dealt Raymond Betonio of Quezon City (6th round unanimous decision).
Meanwhile, another International Championship bout is scheduled between Japanese WBC #17 Bantamweight Contender Hiroki Shiino against Philippine WBC #20 Bantamweight Contender Dado Cabintoy this October 22 for the vacant WBC International Bantamweight Championship.
Shiino is a 25 year old national team boxer who made a debut as professional last August 2009 and with a record of 6 wins: 5 K.O's , 1 lost and 1 draw while Cabintoy is a 22 year old with a record of 14 fights: 1 loss, 2 draws, 11 wins, and 8 KO's.
