Maasin City, Southern Leyte ? Albert Pagara dyed his hair blonde to mark his second stint as a headliner at the Maasin City Gymnasium. He did not, however, change his aggressive fan-friendly style.
Pagara remained unbeaten as he stopped Rogen Flores of Dipolog City in four rounds in a fight held Tuesday at the Maasin City Gymnasium. Pagara had trouble figuring out the southpaw Flores in the opening round. In the second stanza, Pagara unleashed a sharp right uppercut that scored the first knockdown of the fight.
Flores got up and quickly went down again courtesy of a counter right hook from Pagara. The veteran Flores survived the round and tried to make a fight out of it in the third with his solid hooks. In the fourth round, Pagara pinned Flores on the ropes and a brutal barrage sent Flores down again. He got up but his corner threw in the towel to save him from further punishment.
Official time of the TKO ? 2:43.
The 17-year-old Pagara moves up to 7 wins, six by knockout with no losses. Flores suffered his fifteenth career loss, with nine wins and three draws. Boyce Sultan (5W-0L, 3KOs) of Zamboanga del Norte knocked out Hagibis Que?ones (0W-3L) of Gen.Santos City with a hail of body punches in the first round. Official time 1:06.
Boyce is the brother of former WBF welterweight titlist Dondon Sultan.
Ivor Lastrilla of Tacloban City knocked out Marben Layos of Gen. Santos City with a quick one-two combo in the first round. Official time ? 2:35.
In the opening pro bout of the evening, Lowell Saguisa of Bato, Leyte won by unanimous decision over Reymund Tabugon of Cagayan de Oro in a fast paced four round brawl. The scores 39-37 for all three judges.
In the amateur contests, boxers from ALA-Mandaue City won four of the six bouts in their head to head match-up against boxers from Maasin City. Attending the boxing promotion were ALA Promotions patriarch Antonio Aldeguer and Maasin City Mayor Maloney Samaco.
The venue was packed to the rafters in this second edition of ?Maasin Pride? which was part of the city?s fiesta celebrations. The professional fights were supervised by the Games and Amusements Board of Cebu lead by Celso Miranda and Rolando Mendoza.
Philboxing would like to thank the people of Maasin for their hospitality and for supporting the fight game.
