Sta. Ynes, CA:- In a fight described as a rumble between two guys ?who really hated each other and had to stay in different hotels to avoid pre-fight confrontations, the guy who talked more, had a great deal more of bravado and who came off as if he will eat his opponent alive, ended at the short end of the stick Friday night at the Chumash Casino here.
Defending USBA 140 lbs champion Tim Coleman (19-3-1, 5KO) of Baltimore, Maryland who calls himself ?The Pitbull? walked into the ring full of himself. He was full of bluster and tried hard to stare down Vernon ?The Iceman? Paris (25-0-0, 15KO) of Detroit, Michigan.
In the beginning of the fight it appeared that Coleman indeed intimidated his challenger. In fact he led in the early rounds even knocking down Paris in round 2. But Paris survived the KD and shook it off as he rested on his stool. As round three started both fighter came more alive and had heated exchanges throughout the round as well as on round 4 and 5.
One thing that Paris realized during those torrid exchanges was that Coleman was a little weak in the mid section. He reacted every time he got hit by a body blow.
In round 6, responding to his corner?s instructions, Paris started to throw more to the body of Coleman. His efforts paid off as he put down Coleman twice in the round. In fact, in the last seconds of the round, Coleman barely escaped outright defeat as the bell sounded to save him.
When 7th round started, Paris sensing that he was about to be crowned as USBA champion, upped the tempo and threw more body punches to the now retreating Coleman.
A well placed left hook to the liver sent Coleman to the canvas again and ended his reign as champion.

Cristobal Cruz vs Art Hovhannisyan ends in a draw.
In the supporting main event, Glendale, CA?s Art ?Lionheart? Hovhannisyan ( 14-0-2, 8KO) and former world champion Cristobal ?Lacandon? Cruz (39-12-3, 23KO) of Mexico fought to a short 4 round technical draw. The scores were 39-37 , 37-39 and 38-38.
The fight was stopped by the referee, Raul Caiz Sr upon the recommendation of Filipino CSAC physician, Dr. Leandro Gatus of Sherman Oaks, CA., due to an accidental head that resulted in a cut over the right eye of Cruz.

Michael Anderson wins over Bernardo Guereca.
Michael Anderson (11-0-0, 9KO) of Newark , NJ had a short work night against Bernardo Guereca (16-12-1, 3KO) of El Paso, Texas. Anderson stopped Guereca with a short left hook at 2:19 of round 1.
Roman Morales (6-0-0,4KO) of San Ardo, CA kept his record clean with a hard fought unanimous decision over veteran Rodrigo Aranda (8-15-2, 2KO) of Tabasco, Mexico. The scores were all 60-54 by the three judges, Corona, Adair, and deLuca.

In the first swing bout, undefeated lightweight, Michael Faragon (16-0-0, 7KO) of Guilderland, New York won via a TKO over Ira Terry (24-6-0, 14KO) of Memphis, Tennessee. Time: 2:32.

In the 2nd swing bout, Rufino Serrano ( 9-3-0) of nearby Sta. Maria, CA and a crowd favorite at the Chumash Casino Resort beat Johnny Frazier (2-7-3, (2KO) of Las Vegas via a unanimous decision. The scores were not announced due to the rush to accommodate TV. The announcer simply stated that Serrano won via UD.

In the 3rd swing bout, Sergio Nunez (3-0-1) of Maywood, CA easily beat a debutant, Ricardo Cubias (0-1-0) . The scores were all 40-36 from the three judges, Corona, Adair and deLuca.

In the curtain raiser, Luis Franco (10-0-0, 6KO) kept his record unblemished with a 4th round TKO over journeyman Adolfo Landeros (21-21-,5KO) of Hidalgo, Mexico. Hidalgo?s corner advised referee Raul Caiz Sr., at the end of round 4 that their fighter is finished.
