Filipino Dennis Laurente lost in his bid to win the Pan-Asian Boxing Association (PABA) light welterweight title, bowing to Indonesian Daudy Bahari on a 12-round technical decision last night at the Indosiar Studio in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Scores were 116-108, 115-110, 116-109, all for Bahari, although ringside reports from Indon media have it that the referee, Chalarm Prayadsab of Thailand, made glaring infractions in excessively deducting 2 points from Laurente, on two occassions.
Bahari reportedly got confused by Laurente's unorthodox style, and was visibly having a hard time against the Filipino fighter.
A two-point deduction was slapped by Prayadsab on Laurente in round nine following a clash of heads which caused a cut on Bahari's left eyelid, a move which was considered too much by observers, considering that it was not clear whether it was an intentional headbutt.
Laurente upped his attack in rounds ten, eleven, and twelve, hoping to score a knockout. Alas, the fight was stopped in the middle of the final round, and Prayadsab again took two points off Laurente for the 'unintentional' headbutt.
Indon fight writer Jeffrey Pamungkas, reporting from ringside, said that the deduction was 'incorrect.'
Pino Bahari, brother of Daudy and promoter of the fight, told this writer that the fight was stopped due to intentional headbutt by Laurente.
