Lapu-Lapu City - James Bacon backed up Elmer Legaria with his sharp jab and pinned him on the ropes. A series of punches punctuated by a thunderous left hook to the ribs sent Legaria down and Referee Teddy Alivio counted him out at the 2:27 mark.

Bacon (17W-2L, 12 KO?s), from Mandaue City and the ALA Gym, won the vacant Philippine superfeatherweight title on his second attempt. Last October, he lost a split decision to Ronald Pontillas in Iloilo. Legaria, who hails from Sarangani, drops to 12W (3KO?s) -4L.

The rains did not dampen the spirits of the fans who gathered to witness the free to the public fight card still at the Hoops Dome on the eve of Pinoy Pride VII.

In the undercards, Larry ?Bon Jovi? Canillas of Toledo City engaged veteran Jaime Barcelona in a back and forth slugfest. Canillas, the reigning PABA superbantamweight titlist, had strong moments early until Barcelona was ready to go down in the fifth. But Barcelona managed to hang on and the action got sloppy as fatigue affected their punch accuracy.

An accidental clash of heads in the 6th inflicted a cut on Canillas? left eyelid. The ring physician, Dr. Jose Unabia, recommended a halt to the bout. Canillas was leading on the three scorecards ? 58-56, 59-55 and 58-56- and was awarded the technical decision win.

Welbeth Loberanis? right hand lead was on target against the southpaw Wiljar Ugbaniel. Loberanis then knocked him out in the third round with a hard body shot. Official time - 2:59.

Mark Vincent Bernaldez survived a flash knockdown in the opening round to win a hard fought and close unanimous decision over Jun Ryan Quimbo. All three judges had it 38-37.

Southpaw Mark Acub knocked down Jovannie Rota three times in the opening round using a powerful left cross. The referee mercifully stopped the carnage at the 2:55 mark.

Ryan Canillas and Lito Dante traded vicious hooks to the body and head for six rounds. Dante bled from a cut on his right eyelid in the fifth and both boxers finished the fight with swelling around the eyes. The scores read 58-56 for Canillas and two judges had it 57-57 for a majority draw.

Arjan Canillas won by TKO in the first round over Arnie Alagon, who dropped to one knee and signaled that he has had enough after being at the receiving end of head shots. Official time ? 1:09.

In the opening bout of the evening, Crispin Parba threw a torrent of punches at Octavio Aleonar who was slammed hard into the red corner. The referee waived the fight off at 1:55 of the first round.

ALA Gym stars Donnie Nietes, Milan Melindo and Rocky Fuentes watched the action at ring side. This event was part of the ALA-Cobra Energy Drink ?Tunay na Lakas? boxing series. The fights were supervised by GAB-Cebu lead by Celso Miranda and Rolando Mendoza.
