James Bacon of the ALA Gym and Elmer Legaria made weight during the official weigh-in Thursday morning paving the way for their twelve round battle for the vacant Philippine superfeatherweight championship this Friday at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City.
They will fight in the main event of a 'free to the public' boxing promotion held one day before the much anticipated PINOY PRIDE VII fight card between AJ Banal and Tyson Cave.
Bacon (16W-2L, 11 KO's) weighed in at the division limit of 130 lbs while Legaria (12W-3L, 3 KO's) stepped in at 129 ? lbs. This will be Bacon's second attempt to win the Philippine title. Last October 23, 2010, he lost by split decision to Ronald Pontillas in Iloilo. Legaria is a former Mindanao Professional Boxing Association (Minproba) superfeatherweight titlist.
In the supporting main event, Larry 'Bon Jovi' Canillas, the reigning PABA superbantamweight titlist, will fight veteran Jaime Barcelona in a ten round non-title fight. Canillas and Barcelona both weighed 127 lbs.
Also scheduled to see action are Welbeth Loberanis (112 lbs) vs Wiljan Ugbaniel (112 lbs) ? 8 rounds, Ryan Canillas (110 ? lbs) vs Lito Dante (107 ? lbs) ? 6 rounds, Mark Vincent Bernaldez (123 lbs) vs Jun Ryan Quimbo (119 ? lbs) ? 4 rounds, Mark Acub (130 lbs) vs Jovannie Rota (130 ? lbs) ? 4 rounds, Arjan Canillas (129 lbs) vs Arnie Alagon (134 ? lbs) - 4 rounds (Alagon will be penalized by wearing heavier gloves for being overweight) and Crispin Parba (130 ? lbs) vs Octavio Alemar (129 ? lbs) ? 4 rounds.
The weigh-in was held at the ALA Gym and supervised by Rolando Mendoza of the Games and Amusements Board (GAB ? CEBU). This card is part of the ongoing ALA-Cobra Energy Drink 'Tunay na Lakas' boxing tour. Fight time starts at 7 p.m.
