Cebu City - Dodie Boy Pe?alosa,Jr and Jeffrey Jimenez came out swinging with solid hooks in the first round. Pe?alosa landed the harder punches but the two southpaws collided during an exchange and a cut opened on Pe?alosa?s left eyebrow near the end of the round.
The accidental headbutt cost Jimenez a point.
With blood pouring down the left side of his face, Pe?alosa tried to land a haymaker in the second round but Jimenez took his punches well and fired back.
For the first time in his pro career, Pe?alosa heard the bell signaling the start of the third round. Jimenez was shaken by a right hook but recovered quickly and landed well timed counters.
Compared to Pe?alosa?s first four opponents, Jimenez came in with the clear intention of scoring an upset and gave the Cebu Coliseum crowd anxious moments. Blood continued to trickle from the cut but it did not affect Pe?alosa?s punch accuracy.
Pe?alosa?s corner, which includes his father, two time world champion Dodie,Sr., managed to stop the bleeding entering the fourth round. Pe?alosa fired a sneaky left to the liver and Jimenez sank to his knees grimacing in pain prompting the fight stoppage.
Official time of the TKO ? 0:58 of the 4th. Jimenez was still doubling up in his corner as Pe?alosa?s arm was raised in victory. Dodie,Jr. is now 5W-0L with 5 KO?s. Jimenez was applauded for his effort but slipped to 5W-9L-2D, 3 KO?s.
In the supporting main event, southpaw Marvin Mabait used a lightning left straight to knock down Aljun Salogaol in the seventh round. Salogaol got up but received a brutal volley prompting the referee to stop the fight at the 1:07 mark.
Both boxers started tentatively but Mabait slowly built his lead on pinpoint punches.
Sonny Katiangdagho won by second round TKO over Johnjier Torbiso.
A series of solid hooks to the body and head sent Torbiso down and he signaled his capitulation when he got up. Official time ? 1:50.
Junie Salogaol and John Edu Torbiso fought to a split draw after four rounds. The scores ? 39-37 Torbiso, 39-37 Salogaol and 38-38.
Jaime Bermiso and Renren Tesorio engaged in a draining four round brawl that was scored a majority draw. But an exhausted Tesorio was attended to by medical personnel at ringside after the fight. The scorecards read 39-38 Bermiso and two judges had it 38-38.
Junriel Jimenez, Rexel Tabogon and Allan Refuela were the winners in the three amateur bouts that opened the event. This boxing promotion at the Cebu Coliseum was held Saturday courtesy of GerryPens Promotions.
