'The Sniper' targets Pumar in Cebu

Hot prospect Froilan 'The Sniper' Saludar will make his second appearance in the country's boxing capital this July 30 when he fights Gabriel Pumar of Lapu-Lapu City for the WBO Asia-Pacific flyweight crown.

Promoter Sammy Gello-ani has confirmed this intriguing match-up in his fight card billed as 'The Next Prospects XI'. The 22 year old Saludar (12-0-1-9KOs) resides in Davao but has fought in Cavite for the past year and stopped his last six opponents. He has won two WBO Youth titles and it would be interesting to see how he will handle the well traveled Pumar.

There was a buzz about Pumar (15-5-1-9KOs) five years ago when he won the WBC International minimumweight title from Tshepo Lefele in South Africa by seventh-round knockout. But Pumar could not live up to the high expectations. He would lose to two South Africans, Zukisani Kwayiba (TKO 10) and Nkosinathi Joyi (KO1). Pumar fought under the name BoomBoom Toei and has a four win-three loss record in Japan in his last seven fights.

Last May 15, 2010, Saludar had a rather quite stay in Cebu City when he beat Ryan Illustrisimo by six round unanimous decision at the Wilfredo Cabalse Sports Complex in Mabolo in the undercard of the WBO Oriental title fight between Rocky Marcial and Dante Paulino.

SGG Promotions also informed philboxing of a mouth watering undercard. WBO Oriental lighweight champion Jose Ocampo will face former WBO Asia-Pacific jr.lightweight champ Rey Labao in another battle of heavy hitters. Last April, Ocampo scored a major upset in Thailand by stopping world ranked Thai Tor Silachai in six rounds.

Unbeaten Jerwin Ancajas (10-0-1, 4 KO's), the reigning WBO As-Pac superflyweight champ, will fight tough Noel 'Dinamita' Adelmita(14-2-2, 4 KO's) of Bohol. Both are scheduled for ten rounds.
