Cebu City ? Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista suffered three cuts due to head butts before the fight was stopped at 0:56 of the seventh round. Heriberto 'Cuate' Ruiz of Mexico effectively defused Bautista's aggressiveness with timely clinches, an effective jab and lateral movement in the early rounds.

Just like in their first fight, Bautista was cut by a clash of heads in the third at the corner of his right eyebrow. Bautista continued to charge forward which resulted in heated exchanges. In the fifth, Ruiz' survival skills showed as he landed a low blow and effectively clinched. Another headbutt opened a cut on Bautista's scalp. Referee Danrex Tapdasan had a hard time controlling the extra-curricular activities.

Bautista was surging and landed the cleaner and harder blows in the 5th and 6th rounds. Ruiz was fading but another clash of heads opened a cut on Bautista's right eyebrow. The ring physician, Dr. Jose Unabia, recommended the fight stoppage. The scores read ? Judge Bruce McTavish 69-65, Judge Muhamad Rois 68-65 and Judge Rey Danseco 68-65 all for Bautista.

Bautista won the IBF International featherweight title but a section of the crowd voiced their displeasure. The sportswriters at ringside also had an animated discussion about the outcome.

Per IBF rules, no points were deducted due to the headbutts.

Jason Pagara had trouble figuring out Juan Carlos Gallegos of Mexico and even walked into a left hook from the Mexican. In the second and third rounds, Pagara had trouble finding his range and timing. A hematoma formed under Pagara's right eye in the 3rd as an upset loomed.

But in the fourth stanza, Pagara fired a sharp left hook that shook Gallegos and followed up with a quick one-two combo which deposited Gallegos into the canvas. Referee Tony Pesons reached the ten count at the 2:59 mark.

For the Philippine TV broadcast, ABS-CBN will show the fights at 10 AM and Studio 23 at 12 noon Sunday.

DAPUDONG STINGS THE RHINOCEROS

The Indon was game and tough but another series of shots sent Loemoli down in the 4th round and the referee waived it off at the 0:20 mark.

Genesis Servania won by second round knockout over Richard Donaire. Servania scored two knockdowns in succession in the opening round courtesy of a right uppercut. Donaire fell down again from another fusillade near the end of the round.

A quick one-two combo sent Donaire down again in the 2nd and referee mercifully stopped the fight. Official time ? 1:18.
