Wilshire Grand Hotel, Downtown LA:- Early this afternoon at the final press conference held by Top Rank Promotions and its associates, Tecate Beer, Universum Promotions, Staples Center and Zanfer Promotions held at this iconic hotel, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr emphatically told this writer that he is ?ready to go and can not put into words his excitement about the fight on Saturday with Sebastian Zbik.?
Chavez Jr is challenging the WBC World Middleweight Champion from Germany, Sebastian Zbik in a 12 round battle dubbed by the promoters as ?The Son Also Rises.? The title of the fight card is of course in reference to Julio Cesar Chavez Sr, arguably, Mexico?s best fighter who won his first title in Los Angeles. They are hoping that on Saturday night (June 4th) the Junior will also rise to the top of the middleweights with a win against Zbik.
Zbik for his part was a little less upbeat but none-the-less as confident as his challenger. ?It would be a first for both of us,? Zbik said. ?My first fight in the US and my first victory in this great City as well. It will also be the first defeat for Chavez,? he added.
The Zbik-Chavez Jr fight will be televised on HBO After Dark live outside of the West Coast, USA. The West Coast telecast will be on a delayed basis and will air at 10:00 PM PT.
Fighting on the undercard will be Mikey Garcia and a substitute fighter Rafael Guzman. Guzman is taking the place of Miguel Beltran Jr who was injured while training. The fight is for the NABF and NABO Featherweight titles.
Also fighting in the undercard will be Vanes Martirosyan and Saul Roman. Their fight is a title eliminator and will not be on TV.
The fight card will also feature the return of Christy Martin from a long layoff associated with an incident with her husband who is now in prison. Martin will be fighting the soft spoken Dakota Stone of Mountain View, CA via the State of Washington.
