Maasin City, Southern Leyte ? ALA Gym blue chip rookie Albert Pagara continues his unbeaten run with a first round knockout win over Anthony Galigao of Bohol in the main event of a fight card held at the Maasin City Gymnasium Friday night.
Pagara immediately pounced on Galigao and trapped him in the neutral corner where Pagara unleashed a left and right hook to the body sending Galigao down and grimacing in pain on the canvas. Referee Ben Necessario reached the ten count at the 1:09 mark.
Pagara (5W-0L, 4 KO's) is the younger brother of WBO Youth Asia-Pacific lt. welterweight titlist Jason Pagara. Their mother is from Maasin and this city hopes to stage a boxing promotion with the brothers fighting together in the near future.
In the undercards, Albert Villacampa of Bantayan Island beat Junel Busano of Bohol by 5th round TKO. It was a free swinging brawl in the first two rounds then Busano was deducted a point in round three for holding on to Villacampa?s leg and attempting a mixed martial arts takedown maneuver.
Villacampa sent Busano down in round four then finished the job in round five with two knockdowns courtesy of a series of hard body shots. The referee waived the fight off at 2:32.
In a battle of featherweight southpaws, Jocel Gestopa of Consolacion, Cebu and John Mark Deita of the Navarette Stable of Gen.Santos City fought to a four round majority draw. The scores ? one judge scored 39-38 for Deita and two judges had it 38-38.
In the first pro bout of the evening, John Ivor Lastrilla of Tacloban City won by first round knockout using a sharp counter left hook to send Rey Simbajon of Bohol flat on his back.
In the amateur bouts, Maasin City boxers won four out of five matches against fighters from Cebu City. Three Maasin boxers also won against their opponents from Macrohon and Matalom, Leyte. There were also three amateur bouts involving kids from the developmental program of Maasin City.
The fight card billed as ?Maasin Pride? was offered free to the public as part of the birthday celebration of Mayor Maloney Samaco. The professional fights were sanctioned and supervised by the Games and Amusements Board of Cebu lead by Rolando Mendoza.
