Denver ?The Excitement? Cuello and Samat Chaiyong of Thailand both tipped the scales at the minimumweight division limit of 105 lbs during the official weigh-in held today at the the plaza of the municipality of Angono, Rizal.
A small crowd of 500 people gathered to watch Cuello, who also fights using the surname Singwangcha, to honor Thai Promoter Naris Singwangcha. He is the defending WBC international 105 lb division titlist.
Cuello must win this fight to secure a world title shot. Earlier this month, Promoter Aljoe Jaro informed this writer that he wrote World Boxing Council secretary general Mauricio Sulaiman, who responded by stating that Cuello will be given consideration after newly crowned WBC world champion Kazuto Ioka will defend against Juan Hernandez and if Hernandez wins, a rematch would be great and if Ioka wins and goes ahead with his plan to move up in weight then Cuello could fight for the vacant title.
In a minimumweight title eliminator last year in Mexico against Juan Hernandez, Cuello suffered a DQ loss when he already had Hernandez down. Jaro feels that Cuello will get his shot at the middle of this year. Both Samat and Cuello beat a common opponent, former IBF champ Muhamad Rachman.
The fight venue will be at the Ynares gym in Angono. Fights start at 6 PM and their championship fight will start at 10 PM as decided during the meeting for the rules held at the the office of Mayor Gerry Calderon. This card is also held with the cooperation of the Rotary club of Angono, GMA7, and the Rizal Local Government.
