PINOY PRIDE 4: PUBLIC WORKOUT FOR ?THE WORLD? AT THE PARK MALL

Mandaue City - The foreign boxers for this Saturday?s PINOY PRIDE 4: PHILIPPINES VS. THE WORLD staged a public workout at the Parkmall on a rain drenched Wednesday evening. Kenichi ?Machine Gun? Yamaguchi of Japan opened the festivities showcasing his impressive footwork and rapid fire punching for two rounds.

Yamaguchi (16W-1L-2D, 4 KO?s ) gave the mall crowd a glimpse of what Marjohn Yap (14W-5L, 7 KO?s) of the Philippines will expect when they meet in the ring. He was cheered on by his countryman, former two-time world champion Katsunari Takayama of Japan, who was watching at ringside.

Jemmy Gobel (R).

Jemmy ?BoomBoom? Gobel (12W-7L-5D, 12 KO?s) of Indonesia shadow boxed and hit the mitts also for two rounds. He will fight OPBF flyweight champ Rocky Fuentes (29W-6L-2D, 18 KO?s) of Mambaling,Cebu City in a non-title contest. Gobel is a superflweight champion in his country.

Steve ?The Dragon? Claggett of Canada was impressive in his workout with Filipino-Canadian trainer Eric de Guzman. Clagett (11W-0L-1D, 6 KO?s) who holds the WBC Youth Intercontinental light welterweight title will fight tough Filipino lightweight Romeo Jakosalem (11W-4L-1D, 5 KO?s).


Francis Miyeyusho on the mitts.

Tanzanian Francis Miyeyusho (29W-8L-2D, 17 KO?s) shadow boxed and hit the mitts with Trainer Emmanuel Mlundwa. He will have the fight of his life against Cebu City?s AJ ?Bazooka? Banal (23W-1L-1D, 18 KO?s). The power punching southpaw from Ermita won by a much talked about disqualification in his last fight against former two time world champion Luis Perez of Nicaragua. Banal won the WBO Asia-Pacific bantamweight belt last year by stopping Big Yoo of Korea in five rounds in Bohol. This will be his first title defense.


Rosendo Vega on the mitts.

Rosendo ?El Matador? Vega (17W-6L, 11 KO?s) then entered the ring and did his routine with trainer Herminio Vega Ramirez. The Mexican Vega has experienced facing high quality fighters having lost to WBA world flyweight champion Daiki Kameda in a non-title fight last year. Vega will face Milan Melindo (23W-0L, 7 KO?s) in the fight card?s main event. Melindo is fresh from a career best win against former IBF lt.flyweight champ Carlos Tamara.
The mall crowd who witnessed the event also had a chance to win free tickets. The boxers then posed for pictures with the appreciative fans. The Filipino boxers will get to meet their adversaries in Thursday?s press conference at the Waterfront Hotel.
