Las Vegas, NV:- Although not too many may have noticed it as it was taken for granted, PhilBoxing was perhaps the first website to put up the up to the minute reports and photos from the fight card promoted by Top Rank last night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Well, here is the story and it must be told if only to thank the person that gave PhilBoxing the ability to do what it did.
As the PhilBoxing rep at the MGM, it was my responsibility to file the reports and photos as they happen.
However, I was given a ?photo position? up in Section 113 of the MGM. Those who are familiar with the layout of the MGM know that Section 113 is about 150 feet from ring center.
The distance was no problem, as I had my 300mm lens to use. And, I also had my lap top with me to download photos and upload them to the PhilBoxing administrator so they can get published almost after they happened.
The biggest problem was the power source. I was not too sure my old lap top batteries will hold and I advise Dong Secuya that I can only send my reports if they did.
Well, the heavens must be smiling on PhilBoxing last night.
I happen to see the MGM floor supervisor, Peggy Steerman. Peggy is an old friend and she has done us favors before. I requested her to ask the MGM engineering department to run a power cord to where the media people were so we can power our battery chargers for the cameras and the lap tops.
She did.
Soon after the first bout was over, the MGM engineers run a power cord to where we are and the rest is history.
With the power source, everyone was able to do their thing. With that, I was able to send reports and photos soon after they happened.
I told Peggy that I will write an article about her kind gestures and she will see it on Philboxing.
Here you are Peggy. This one is for you. Thanks for all your help and see you on the next fight.
