Anaheim, CA:- Friday night at the Marriott Hotel at Warner Center in the West San Fernando Valley, Ray Beltran gave an early birthday present to Freddie Roach by winning via a 7th round TKO over Carlos Vinan. Beltran prepared for the Vinan fight with Roach guiding him.

Tonight, at the Honda Center in this city made famous by Disneyland, New York?s Daniel Jacobs gave a better one to Freddie Roach.

Jacobs scored two knockdowns in round one against Minnesota?s Robert Kliewer prompting referee Ray Corona to stop the fight at 1:44 of the first round. With the win, Jacobs gets to 22-1-0,19 KO while Kliewes dropped to 11-13-2.

Jacobs was fighting under Freddie Roach for the first time.

While waiting for the fights to happen, Eric Gomez, a Golden Boy Promotions VP walked in to the room with all the boxers, trainers and seconds assigned to the red corner to lead a ?Happy Birthday? song for Freddie Roach while the famed trainer of the year was wrapping the hands of Jacobs under the eagle eyes of the boxing Commissioners from the State of California.

Ever so humble Roach simply bowed his head in thanks to all the people, but with his huge smile there was no denying that he savored the honor.

After the song and while there was a lull period, in a short conversation, Roach informed this writer who was in the same room as a cutman of Jason Montgomery (who fought a four rounder) that he is taking a flight to Manila tomorrow, Sunday LA time to begin the preparation of Manny Pacquiao against Shane Mosley.
