Denver ?The Excitement? Cuello will make another step towards a shot at a world title when he faces Samat ?3-K Battery? Chaiyong or Samartlek Chaiyonggym of Thailand this March 26 at the Ynares Gym in Angono, Rizal. International Boxing Promoter Aljoe Jaro informed philboxing of Cuello?s new opponent as he was initially scheduled to fight Wanheng Menayothin of Thailand on March 6.
Cuello (25W-4L-6D, 15 KO?s) won the WBC international title last April 2009 with a 4th round TKO win over Hiroshi Matsumoto of Japan. He also stopped Mating Kilakil in the 4th round in his first defense seven months later. Last year in Iligan City, Cuello scored the biggest win of his career when he beat former IBF world champ Muhamad Rachman by 9th round TKO. This was the first time Rachman lost by TKO or KO.
Samat (4W-1L, 1 KO) has also beaten Rachman on points last January 24. Jaro said that Samat may have only a few pro fights but he has more than 200 amateur bouts. He has seen Samat?s fight against Rachman and he said the Thai is very good and would be a good match for Cuello. But Jaro also said he believes his boxer will come out victorious.
Cuello has stopped all four of his opponents since that unfortunate DQ loss he suffered in Mexico at the hands of Juan Hernandez in the third round where he already had Hernandez down in their WBC title eliminator. Jaro believes his fighter has what it takes and is looking for another opportunity for Cuello to have a world title shot.
In his recent fights Cuello has used the surname of Thai promoter Naris Singwangcha who is sponsoring Cuello and is a co-promoter for this fight card.
Jaro was informed by Mauricio Sulaiman of the World Boxing Council (WBC) that Cuello could be in line for a title shot by the middle of this year and face the winner of newly crowned champion Kazuto Ioka?s defense against Juan Hernandez. Cuello needs to continue to be active and win to be in the title picture.
The bout will be shown on Philippine television the next day Sunday March 27 on GMA TV in their ?LABAN NG LAHI? fight series.
