Ana 'The Hurricane' Julaton (8W-2L-1D) successfully defended her WBO female super bantamweight title by unanimous decision in a lopsided ten round bout against Franchesca ?The Chosen One? Alcanter (18W-10L-1D) of Kansas City Saturday afternoon (Philippine Time) at the Craneway Pavilion in Richmond, California.
The Filipina-American Julaton, who fights out of from Daly City, California, found her range early and scored easily from the opening round. She utilized a busy left jab and well timed right straights and left hooks to dominate the fight. She also used lateral movement to avoid Alcanter?s counters.
Julaton?s footwork was a key element in this fight as it kept Alcanter out of position to land a strong punch. Julaton?s manager Angelo Reyes served as her cornerman for this fight as Freddie Roach was not able to make it to the fight.
The three judges? scorecards read 99-92, 97-93 and a rather inexplicable 96-94.
In an interview after the fight, Julaton together with her promoter Allan Tremblay of Orion Sports, said that for her next bout she will be defending her title in the Philippines.
Part of Julaton?s preparation was sparring with male boxers including former WBC lt.flyweight champ Rodel Mayol of Mandaue City, Cebu. Mayol was interviewed on Philippine television (TV 5) before the fight and he said that he sparred six times with Julaton and she hits like a man.
Julaton?s win kept the winning streak this month for Filipino boxers in the United States
