Las Vegas, NV:- Saturday?s Lopez-Marquez war atop the square ring at the MGM Grand Garden Arena was as exciting as it was said to be. Although Marquez was losing on the first three rounds he was giving a good account of himself. In fact, in the fourth round Marquez got Lopez with a square shot on the chin that rocked the Puerto Rican new-found boxing hero. But Lopez was tough enough to recover and proceeded to turn the tide that seemed to have shifted on that round.

In fact that was the only round where all three judges agreed that Marquez won a round.

From the 5th round on, things got to be progressively bad for Marquez. From there it started to be more evident that at least that night, he was not on the same caliber as Lopez. In the end, Marquez had to quit on his corner stool unable to continue after round 8th due to a ?shoulder injury?, an old injury that apparently exacerbate in round 3.

The judges? scores through 8 rounds:

Judge Raul Cais Sr gave Lopez rounds 1, 2, 3, 6, 7 and 8 ( Lopez 77- Marquez 74)

Judge Duane Ford gave Lopez rounds 1,2,3,5,6,7, and 8 (Lopez 78 ? Marquez 73)

Judge Dave Moretti gave Lopez rounds 1, 3, 5,6,7, and 8 (Lopez 77- Marquez 73)
