Former WBC light flyweight champ Rodel Mayol is training at Rex ?Wakee? Salud?s gym in Labangon, Cebu City for his November 5 fight against Thailand?s Pompetch Twins Gym. The Los Angeles based boxer has been in the country for a month now and was training in the same gym as Manny Pacquiao in Baguio when Typhoon Juan hit the city. Mayol left Manila last weekend to continue his training for his fight at 112 lbs and his first bout since losing his world title to Mexican Omar Nino Romero by unanimous decision last June.
RWS Promotions matchmaker Willie Flores informed philboxing that Mayol (26W-5L-2D, 20 KO?s) sparred yesterday with recently crowned PBF jr. bantamweight titlist Marco Demecillo Singwangcha.
Mayol, who is known as ?Batang Mandaue?, last visited Cebu in December 2009.
His opponent, Twins Gym (14W-2L, 4 KO?s) is a former WBC Asian Boxing Council flyweight titlist. His record shows that he has never fought outside of Thailand.
They will fight at the at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig. The card is headlined by former WBC/IBF world lt.flyweight champ Brian Viloria who will fight Thailand?s Liempetch Sor Veerapol. WBC International minimumweight titlist Denver Cuello will also see action against another Thai, Kongkrai Kiatpracha. Promising superflyweight Mark Anthony Geraldo of Bukidnon will fight Jilo Merlin of Benguet.
