PERTH--Today, another milestone is set to take place for the World Boxing Organization as it holds its first-ever world title fight here featuring a WBO female lightweight championship at the Joondalup Arena promoted by CDL Promotions.
Dubbed "Western Alliance II" the card will feature Erin McGowan of Australia and Lyndsey Scragg of the United Kingdom for the WBO title.
Both fighters easily made weight at yesterday's official weigh-in at Sunmoon Restaurant supervised by WBO Asia Pacific chairman Leon Panoncillo with the presence of the youthful promoter Ty Colman and the officials who will work the bout.
"This is a historic event for the WBO, and we expect both fighters to give us a good show, as WBO President Paco Valcarcel has chosen some of our best officials to make sure a fair judgement is rendered to declare the rightful winner," Panoncillo told concerned parties during the rules meeting held after the weigh-in.
CDL Promotions expects a good crowd to witness this exciting match-up laden with explosive undercard bouts.
Local star Mcgowan, undefeated in 13 bouts with 7 KO's, is expected to have her hands full in this ten-round dukeout with Scragg, who is a comparatively more experienced fighter with a record of 10-2, 3 KO's but whose two defeats came at the championship level, bowing only to Kina Malpartida (WBA superfeatherweight title) in late 2009 and Jelena Mrdjenovich (WBC superfeatherweight) in 2008.
The co-feature will pit Daniel Dawson against Frank Loporto for the PABA light middleweight title, while Robbie Bryant takes on Jeremy Allan for the Western Australia light middleweight state championship. Supervisor for the fight is the well-respected Brad Vocale.
The card will also feature David Letizia, Albert Howell as well as Andy Green's return to the ring.
Doors open on fight day starting at 5PM on Saturday at Arena Joondalup along Kennedy Drive.
