Marco Demecillo Singwangcha of Cebu City worked behind a powerful left hook to win the vacant Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) jr. bantamweight championship by unanimous decision over Dondon Jimenea of Manila. Singwangcha took the initiative early and landed hooks to the body and head of Jimenea.
Singwangcha seemed to be ahead at the halfway mark but the veteran Jimenea made the necessary adjustments and boxed from a distance and used lateral movement to stay out of trouble. Singwangcha pressed and was instructed by his cornermen to keep busy with his jab. Jimenea proved to be resilient and slippery but his defensive mindset in the last three rounds proved to be his undoing as the judges awarded the fight to the more aggressive Singwangcha. The scores after ten rounds: 96-94, 98-92 and 97-93. Demecillo-Singwangcha remains unbeaten with 6W-0L-1D, 4 KO?s. Jimenea drops to 23W-13L-4D, 11 KO?s.
This fight was the main event of the card billed as BRAWL AT THE VILLAGE II held Sunday evening at Guadalupe Osmena Village at Punta Princesa, Cebu City at the square right beside Rex ?Wakee? Salud?s Gym.
JR Magboo of Manila won by split decision over Charles Delada Singwangcha of Cebu City in a six round jr. bantamweight bout. In the third round, a looping right sent Delada down to the canvas.
He got up at the count of eight and had Magboo reeling in the 4th round. In the 5th, a point was deducted from Magboo for excessive holding. Delada tried to cut the ring but he couldn?t land enough hard punches. Two judges scored it 57-55 for Magboo and one scored it 57-55 Delada.
Romnick Magos of Cebu City won by TKO against Elmer Pono of Mandaue City in the 4th and final round. Both flyweights traded heavy punches from the opening bell. In the 4th, a tiring Pono was pinned defenceless on the ropes and was the recipient of a brutal barrage prompting the referee to stop the fight. Official time ? 1:42.
The winners were also given cash incentives by Thai Promoter Naris Singwangcha.
There were also six amateur bouts: Rommel Tunacao of Mandaue City won on points 2-1 over Jerwin Singson of Compostela (32 kgs), Melmark Dignos of Lapulapu City beat Christian Pareja of Compostela on points 2-1 (39 kgs), Uelmark Dignos of Lapulapu City won by RSC-outclassed in the first round over Nonoy Sumabong of A.Lopez St., Cebu City (45 kgs).
