Lubert Bayo of Mandaue City won by unanimous decision over Jolito Catubay of Zamboanga del Norte after six blood soaked rounds in front of a highly animated standing room only crowd at the Municipal Square of Siquijor.
It started even through a quick opening pace with sharp jabs and they took turns advancing behind big shots. In the fourth round blood started to ooze from Catubay?s scalp as he sustained a cut on the left temple. Bayo proceeded to land the harder punches in the endgame. The scores: 59-55, 58-56 and 59-55.
The six round superflyweight contest was the main event of the card billed as ?BOXING SA ARAW NG SIQUIJOR? as they celebrate their Charter anniversary.
For the supporting bouts, Siquijor natives Honey Boy Vidad and Rajah Nas Bantugan engaged in a well applauded slam bang four round featherweight tussle that ended in a majority draw. It was a non-stop exchange of hooks to the body and hard head shots that got the biggest response from the crowd.
The scorecards read 39-37 Bantugan and two judges had it 38-38.
In the evening?s first pro bout, Ian Malinao of Ubay, Bohol won by TKO in the 3rd round over Bryan Samson of Lazi, Siquijor in a four round superbantamweight scrap. A right uppercut followed by a left hook to the ribs sent the fading Samson down in the third. Official time - 1:30.
The professional bouts were supervised by the Games and Amusements Board (GAB- Cebu) personnel headed by Celso Miranda and Rolando Mendoza. Exciting amateur fights featuring local standouts opened this event.
This fight card is presented by RWS International Promotions and the Siquijor Provincial Government headed by Gov. Orlando Pua Jr. thru the efforts of Hon. Jimmy Duhaylungsod.
Philboxing would like to tank the local government officials and the people of Siquijor for supporting the fight game.
