RIOS, OROSCO WIN AT NOKIA FIGHT NIGHT

LA Live, Downtown Los Angeles:- You know that the fight card will be fairly exciting overall when you see that one of the judges assigned by the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) to be one of the three judges to score all of the night?s fight is Jonny Davis, the only accredited Filipino judge in the whole State.
And, just an icing on the cake, the fight night physician assigned to safeguard the boxers is Leandro Gatus, MD, the only Filipino doctor accredited by the CSAC.
The main event fighters did not disappoint. They lived up to the hype promoted by Golden Boy Promotions.
In the main event, undefeated Ronnie Rios of Santa Ana, CA. kept his record immaculate (12-0-0, 6KO) by stopping a very determined foe from Puerto Rico via Miami, Florida, Leivi Brea (17-9-3, 9KOs). Rios accidentally hit Brea with a low blow in the second round and was deducted a point. In round 4 Rios dropped Brea with a body shot. Brea survived that KD but was hit with another body shot and he dropped on one knee complaining that it was a low blow. Referee Joe Cobian however did not agree and continued to count. He counted out Brea at 2:59 of the round.
In the supporting main event, undefeated welterweight Antonio Orozco of San Diego, CA (8-0-0,5KOs) also kept his record clean with a very hard fought UD over gutsy Humberto Tapia of Culiacan, Mexico (15-15-, 8KOs). Orozco won the fight with his speed and footwork. But he did not completely escape the onslaught of Tapia who occasionally scored too. In the end, all the three judges scored the same for Orozco, 60-54.
In the first TV swing bout, two Los Angeles boys, Jonathan Bobadilla (5-3-0) and Juan Figueroa (6-8-1, 3KOs) fought a lazy boring 4 rounder that ended with Bobadilla winning by unanimous decision with the following scores 39-36, 39-36 and 38-37. A clash of heads towards the late part of round 4 resulted in an ugly mouse and a cut over the left eye of Figueroa just above the eyebrow.
In the second TV swing bout, Armando Dorantes of Los Angeles (8-2-0, 2KOs) scored a rather quick KO over Sergio de la Torre of Escondido, CA ( 11-15-3, 1KO) Dorantes initially dropped de la Torre with a strong left but the latter got up only to be hit again with a left to the chin that dropped him again prompting Referee Raul Cais wave off the fight. Time 1:15.
In the opening TV bout, Salvador Rios of Santa Ana, CA in his pro debut scored a 2nd round KO over Stephen Rubalcava of Exetan, CA (0-2-0). Rios hit Rubalcava with a hard right hand that sent his poorly made and ill-fitting mouthguard flying off. Referee Joe Cobian waved off the fight at 1:35 of the round.
In a special super middle weight 4 round fight. Bastie Samir of Accra, Ghana ( 4-0-0, 4KOs) scored a first round KO over Jacob Alvarez of Victor Valley, CA (0-2-0). Referee Raul Cais waved off the fight at 2:37.
Two amateur fights started the evening. In the first one Osman Rivera of Pasadena, CA beat Devo Donalson of Hollywood, CA while Sergio Nunez of Maywood, CA won over Joaquin Chavez of Commerce, CA.
