Lemoore, CA. WBA Light Heavyweight champion Beibut Shumenov of Kazakstan beat Vyachwslav Uzelkov of Ukraine last night on a fight that was shown live on ESPN Friday Night Fights to keep his title.
The fight was held on an open door venue where the temperature was still 106 degree F at 6:00 PM. By the time the main event was done, it was a still a scorching 86 degrees F.
The shearing heat was even compounded by the insistence of the members of the Tachi Indian tribe who owns the venue to disallow certain some photographers from taking photos from the ring side because ?they are blocking the view of the tribe.?
The fight started with the two foes exchanging heavy bombs. A nicely time left hook from Uzelkov dropped Sumenov but he recovered fast enough to return the favor on round two. Sumenov score a flash KD on Uzelkov but just like Sumenov, he recovered as well...
From then it was all Shumenov until the 12 round fight ended sans any more excitement.
The scores were 118-108-118-108 and 117-111.
