Rey ?BoomBoom? Bautista of the ALA Gym will face Alejandro ?Zorrito? Barrera of Mexico in the main event of the Philippines vs The World fight card that will be held this August 28 at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Cebu City.

The 30 year old Barrera (20W with13 KO's- 3L) is former WBC Continental Americas featherweight titlist. The name fighter on his resume is Cesar Soto who beat him by split decision two years ago. This is the same Soto who dethroned Luisito Espinosa in their WBC featherweight title bout in 1999. Barrera has been described as a good, solid fighter with an excellent left jab and right hand.

The 24year old Bautista (28W with 21 KO's ? 2L-1D) has won many regional belts but the world title eluded him three years ago. He has recovered from wrist surgery and won his last two fights by knockout. He had a torrid three round exhibition sparring session against Fernando Otik last Saturday in Bohol in the undercard of AJ Banal vs Big Yoo.

This fight card will also feature Jimrex Jaca (30W-6L-3D, 15 KO's) of Cebu City versus Pipino Cuevas Jr. (14W-5L, 12 KO's) of Mexico. Cuevas is a former WBC Latino super featherweight titist. He is the son of the legendary WBA welterweight champion Pipino Cuevas, who reigned from 1976-1980.

Jaca has knocked out his last two opponents ? Ramadhan Weriu of Indonesia and James Kimori of Kenya ? since he started fighting under ALA Promotions.

A very interesting addition to this fight card is former IBF minimumweight champion Florante Condes (23W-5L-1D, 20 KO's) who will face Sofyan Effendi (10W-8L-2D, 8 KO's) of Indonesia. Also scheduled to see action is the undefeated world ranked Milan Melindo (21W-0L, 6 KO's) who will face Japanese fighter Masayuki Koroda (17W-3L , 12 KO's). This match-up is still under negotiation.

The first edition of ALA Promotions' Philippines vs The World was held in Dubai last April with Bautista, Melindo and Larry ?Bon Jovi? Canillas knocking out their foreign opponents.

The official announcement for this blockbuster card was during a press conference attended by ALA Promotions President Michael Aldeguer, Dennis Canete, Chad Canares, trainers Edito and Edmund Villamor at the Sugbahan Restaurant in Mandaue City.
