Rodel Mayol, The WBC Junior Lightweight Champion of the World left from Los Angeles for Mexico today on a Continental Airlines flight via Houston, Texas.

Accompanying him to the trip which ends at the City of Queretaro are his primary trainers, Jesse Arevalo and Moray Quijano. Also with them is Mayol?s father, Rodrigo.

Team Mayol decided to go to Mexico early to acclimatize to the high altitude and at the same time help the promotions in hyping the fight.

?Even with a reported sell-out crowd it does not hurt for me to help the promotions further,? Mayol said. ?Being there early will also show the Mexican fight promoters, fans and the local media that Filipinos know their responsibilities as fighters. That includes helping the promotions drum up more interest to the fight,? he added.

On Thursday morning Lira, the pretty wife of the champion and this writer who acts as Mayol?s cut man will follow the Team in time for the weigh-in on Friday and other last minute promotional pre-fight activities.

On June 19th, the whole Team will be outfitted with uniforms designed and tailored at Mandaue, Cebu. The uniforms were made with the help of PhilBoxing writer Salven Lagumbay who sought out one of the best uniform makers Mandaue can offer to make the Team Mayol uniforms.

As per the request of the Team, the uniforms proudly depict the Philippine colors of red, white, blue and yellow. ?We should show the world that we are proudly Pinoys and so we go to battle carrying the country?s colors,? Mayol declared

?Please let every one know that this fight is for them. But of course, it?s also for my family and my Team who were so helpful in making sure that come Saturday, I am in tip top shape.?

Team Mayol is requesting his fans, both Filipinos and otherwise to say a prayer for him and Nino. ?Please ask them to pray for both of us so that after the fight we both can go back to our respective families in good health.?

The Mayol-Nino fight is promoted by Fernando Beltran?s Zanfer Promotions. It will be televised live in Mexico and will be supervised by the local boxing commission and WBC.
