ALA Boy Z "The Dream" Gorres goes into action tonight as he faces the slippery Wisanu Pornobnum in a 10-round Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation eliminator at the Mandaue Cultural and Sports Complex.
Co-headlining tonight's card, considered by boxing observers as the best card for this year, is the RP bantamweight tussle between reigning champion Michael Domingo and top-ranked Rolly Lunas, the former Pan-Asia Boxing Asociation flyweight boss.
The Gorres-Pornobnum victor gets the chance to vie for the OPBF 115-lb crown next year against Thai Waengpetch Chuwatana, who is challenging champion Masayuki Arinaga on Nov. 3. Arinaga is reportedly relinquishing the title if he wins over Chuwatana.
Gorres (21-1-1, 11 KO's) weighed in at 116 lbs, while Pornobnum (16-5-1, 3 KO's), who earlier vowed to KO Gorres inside five rounds, came in at 115.5 lbs during official weigh-in yesterday at the ALA Gym in Cebu.
Philippine Bantamweight champion Michael Domingo will defend his title for the first time against top contender Rolly Lunas. Domingo, who is sporting a 25-14-3 win-loss-draw fight record will defend for the first time his newly acquired title which he wrested from Joel Bauya last July.
In the undercard, newly-minted ALA boy Robert Allanic will battle it out with RP No. 10 Super Flyweight Roy Doliguez of the Elorde Stable. Allanic will fight the veteran Doliguez in his 10th fight having just impressively won in his last bout last September 17 stopping John Ray Verano in the third round. This will be a big break for the Cliff Smart prot?g? to move into the ratings.
Other bouts will include Rocky Fuentes versus Bert Gaw at, Rollen del Castillo vs. Alex Aroy from RWS Stable, Jun Intor vs. Winnie Bartiquil and 3 opening bouts from Milan Melindo, Alberto Yap and Racheid Bacus as they trade punches with Juaren LIbrez, Ali Marapao and Tantan Recablanca respectively.
This explosive boxing extravaganza produced by SGG Sports Promotions will be covered by VIVA Sports and televised through, MAIN EVENT, shown on RPN 9, starting tomorrow from 1PM to 3PM. The event is sponsored by Tanduay, the No. 1 Rhum, Cebu Grand Hotel and Republic Chemicals, Inc.
