Larry ?Bon Jovi? Canillas of Toledo City came out with guns blazing and knocked out Dexter Mendoza of Metro Manila in two short rounds. Canillas scored with a series of overhand rights in the opening round and mixing his offense with hooks to the body.
A stinging right in the second sent Mendoza down and the referee reached the count of ten at the 1:25 mark.
This fight was the main event of ALA Promotions? BEST of BOXING 1 held at the Mandaue City Sports Complex Saturday night.
Jayson Rotoni of Metro Manila won by technical decision over Arnel Tadena of Tagbilaran City. The action was stopped due to a cut on Tadena?s right eyebrow at 1;10 of round five. The scorecards read ? 49-46, 49-46 and 50-45. Tadena was a late substitute for the injured Katsunari Takayama of Japan.
Jojo ?Flash? Intor once again provided the evening?s comic relief but it was Mark Jesson Taroja who landed the more accurate punches in winning a 4th round technical decision.
An accidental headbutt induced a cut on Intor?s left eyebrow and the ring physician recommended a halt to the fight at the 1:33 mark. One judge scored it 39-37 for Intor but two judges scored 39-37 for Taroja
Rolito Gasca of Barili, Cebu won by unanimous decision over Jessie Albaracin of the Tony Dacer Stable of Davao City in a well fought blood soaked contest. In the opening round one point was deducted from Gasca for an accidental headbutt that inflicted a cut above Albaracin?s right eyebrow.
Gasca continued to batter Albaracin with vicious hooks. The southpaw from Davao bled for most of the bout but took Gasca?s best shots and came back with some of his own. The scorecards after ten rounds read 96-93, 95-94 and 97-92 all for Gasca.
Marjhun Makahilig of Kalibo, Aklan won by unanimous decision over Elbert Guardiario of the Tony Dacer Stable. Macahilig was stronger and steadier down the stretch. The three scorecards after eight rounds read 79-73 for Makahilig.
