An explosive match-up will be replaced with a bout that promises more fireworks after ALA boy Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes suffered a big cut on his right eyelid following a wayward elbow during a sparring session with stablemate Along Denoy at the ALA Gym last Tuesday afternoon, forcing organizers to replace him with Rocky Fuentes, the heavy-handed banger.
The RP no. 1 minifly Nietes, who was slated to trade blows with former WBC International mini-flyweight champion Armand dela Cruz on October 29 blew his chance to fight for fame due to the cancellation of the bout.
Promoter Sammy "Don King" Gello-ani, in a bid enhance the value of this blockbuster card, made sure that the replacement is equal in stature by pitting RP no. 2 minifly contender Rocky Fuentes of ALA stable against RP No. 7 flyweight Bert Gawat.
Unknown to many, the stocky Fuentes has been campaigning in the 112 lbs. category as he has already outgrown the 105 lbs mini-flyweight division.
The iron-fisted Fuentes, who rose to prominence when his punches caused the demise of John Eman Juarez in only his fourth fight in 2003, is fresh from a successful campaign abroad when he drew with former WBA world champion Chana Porpaoin in Thailand and won three of his four fights in Indonesia the most significant of which was his one round kayo over OPBF rated Anis Ceunfin.
The inclusion of the crowd-pleasing Fuentes will surely add luster to the ?FIGHT FOR FAME? blockbuster card of Gello-ani.
