In a freakish stroke of bad luck, former WBC/WBA 105 lb. world champion Katsunari Takayama of Japan was injured while jogging when he tried to avoid an incoming vehicle causing him to slip and injure his right wrist. He has been pulled out of this Saturday?s BEST OF BOXING I fight card at Mandaue City Sports Complex. But the said fight card will still push through as scheduled.

Arnel Tadena of Tagbilaran City will replace Japanese Katsunari Takayama who was forced to pull out of a scheduled ten-round fight against Jayson Rotoni in Mandaue City on Saturday because of an injury to his right wrist.

The Tadena-Rotoni fight however, has been replaced as the main event by the clash between Larry ?Bon Jovi? Canillas and Dexter Mendoza. Canillas is coming off a 6th round TKO over Tanzania?s Fred Sayuni in Dubai last April 23.

Canillas said that it having fought just a month ago will not be a problem. He relished this opportunity to fight in the main event in a venue known for being the starting point of the careers of many famous ALA boxers.

Canillas has no decent amateur background and has reached this point in his career through sheer guts and punching power. He said he needs to work on his speed and reflexes but his power and endurance has never been a problem.

Just like every Filipino boxer, he idolizes Manny Pacquiao but he admits the Pacman?s style is difficult to copy.

This fight card also features the entertaining Jun ?Flash? Intor takes on Jason Tarroja in a six round bout, Rolito Gasca of Barili,Cebu versus Jessie Albaracin of Davao City in a ten round bout, Marjhun Macahilig of Kalibo, Aklan versus Elbert Guardiario of Davao City in an eight round contest, Jamjam Ungon of Bantayan Island and Joy Pol of Bohol will make their pro debuts in a four round bout, and Jicky Gaco of Cebu will face Carlito Solante of Bohol who will also make his professional debut.

ALA Promotions made the announcement for the changes in a press conference held Thursday morning at the City Sports Club in Cebu. Weigh-in for this fight card will be on Friday morning at the ALA Gym. The fights will be held Saturday evening 6 PM at the Mandaue City Sports Complex.

As for Takayama, ALA Promotions is negotiating for his fight against South Africa's Tshepo Lefele in an IBF eliminator for the vacant No. 1 slot sometime in August. He has no fracture but has pain on his right wrist. Takayama will go back to Japan to rest his hand and will resume training at the ALA Gym next month. He has vowed to bring a world title belt to the ALA Gym.
