LOS ANGELES -- Rodel Mayol today took the WBC mandated weigh-in 4 weeks prior to his fight and he came in well within the 10 pounds he was allowed to weight prior to his fight on June 19th.
Mayol, after a grueling sparring session wherein he went 8 rounds with different sparring partners stepped on the Wildcard Gym scale and registered a sizzling 116 pounds.
?He is right on schedule,? said his primary trainer, Jesse Arevalo. ?I see no reason he won?t easily make the contract weight of 108 lbs the day before the fight,? he added.
Meanwhile Moray Quijano another Mayol trainer responsible for other things Arevalo does not handle, such as jogging, conditioning exercises as well as some nutrition sounded upbeat too.
?Galing nang condition niya kaya wala akong nakikita na magiging problema sa laban. Masaya ako sa weight niya sa araw na ito. (His condition is superb so I do not see any problem during the fight. I am happy about his weight today).
Mayol went through all the routines he does daily and completed his work out in two and a half hours.
After his training, just like Manny Pacquiao, he went straight to Nat?s Thai Restaurant and had a nice lunch consisting of deep fried chicken, wanton soup and lots of veggies washed down with Gatorade.
Tomorrow, bright an early, Mayol and Quijano will go jogging around the oval at Burbank High School. In the afternoon, he will be back at the gym and repeat what he did today.
Mayol was supposed to fly to Mexico City last Monday with this writer for a press conference arranged by WBC. However, there was a slight problem in the City of Queretaro where the fight is scheduled on June 19th.
Diego Fernandez de Ceballos, the brash Mexican political power broker and a former Senator who is one of the pillars of the Mexican ruling party, National Action Party of the incumbent President, Felipe Calderon has disappeared without a trace.
Thus with the ongoing tension in the area (Queretaro is only about 2 hours north of Mexico City) associated with the turmoil and the search and rescue activities by the Mexican army, WBC decided to re-schedule the press conference. To date, no specific date and time has been given to Mayol with regards to that.
