Marlon Aguilar of Nicaragua outworked Michael Fare?as of the Philippines for eight rounds to win by unanimous decision held in Aguascalientes, Mexico.
Fare?as had difficulty handling Aguilar who had the edge during infighting sequences. Fare?as tried to be more aggressive in the third but his momentum was hindered when he landed a low blow.
In the 6th round, the referee deducted a point from the Filipino for low blows. Fare?as was falling way behind but tried to mount a rally in the last round but could not place his punches in bunches. Another low blow from Farenas interrupted the last round action.
The 25 year old Fare?as (27W-3L-3D, 24 KO?s) is a prot?g? of former two division world champ Gerry Pe?alosa. He won the vacant WPBF title last October 2009 with a 9th round KO of South Korea?s Jae-Bong Jang at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
The 22 year old Aguilar improves to 28W-9L-1D with 17 KO?s.They were fighting in the undercard of the Latin Fury XIV fight card featuring Antonio Margarito vs Roberto Garcia.
