Las Vegas, NV:- The mood at the weigh-in late this afternoon at the MGM Grand was electric but sad to say it was nothing compared to those when Manny Pacquiao was involved. But then again, the Filipino crowd was not there.
But true to form the promoters did everything to drum up the excitement. They even had a ?punch meter contest? involving a few guys from the crowd to determine who can punch the hardest. The winner got two seats at the ring side for tomorrow?s fight.
Then they presented something new from Tecate Beer- the Tecate Dancers. Man, were they good and pardon the word, they were hot!
A few boxing personalities were introduced as well. There was Thomas ?Hitman? Hearns and Andre Berto. Juan Ma. Marquez showed up as well and so did Joe Calzage and Sergio Mora. But the guy that was most interesting was Ricky Hatton who showed up in shorts and flip flops leading comedienne George Wallace to tell him,- ? Let?s go get you some shoes, man?. Oh yes, Ricky Hatton was overweight. Fat, to say the least
When the main eventers took the scales, it was purely routine. Shane Mosley hit it at 147 lbs and Mayweather came in at 146lbs.
The guys in the main undercards did good as well. Jose Miguel Cotto, the brother of Miguel was 149lbs. His opponent, Saul Alvarez of Guadalajara, Mexico was 150lbs.
Daniel Ponce de Leon and his opponent Cornelius Lock of Detroit both came in at 125lbs.
Quotes from Mayweather: I had a great camp. Roger and my Dad did well in getting me ready. The key to this fight is being smart. I have to use my jab and fight smart. The fight could end in a KO. If he comes in, it may be a knock-out?.
Quotes from Mosley: ?The key to this fight is speed and power. Even when I was a lightweight I had power. I am strong and I can KO anyone?.
The other weight results are as follows:
Hector Saldivia ---147lbs vs. Said Ouali, 146lbs
Daniel Reece ---136lbs vs. Angel Soto, 137lbs
Jessie Varga---142lbs vs Arturo Morua, 141lbs
Eloy Perez---129lbs vs Gilberto Leon, 130
Dion Savage?168lbs vs Tommie Speller, 166lbs
Luis Ramos---136lbs vs Allen Litzau, 137lbs
