Former two division world champion Gerry Pe?alosa plans to continue fighting and is mulling a ring return this July. Pe?alosa told this writer over dinner Wednesday evening that he has no scheduled opponent yet but he may go after a World Professional Boxing Federation(WPBF) title.
Penalosa (54-8-2, 36 KOs) will turn 38 this August. Last February 13, 2010, he was bloodied enroute to losing a split decision in a WBO eliminator against another former world champion Eric Morel. A lot of boxing pundits thought Gerry deserved to win that fight. Pe?alosa has no regrets and has taken his latest setback in stride.
He has devoted his time to business ventures and training his prot?g?, WPBF featherweight titlist Michael Fare?as, who will fight next month in the undercard of Antonio Margarito vs. Roberto Garcia.
Pe?alosa turned pro in 1989. He has given so much to this country and the sport of boxing. He deserves a victorious send off from the appreciative fans that followed his career through the years.
