Results from the 2nd Mayor Jonas C. Cortes Amateur Boxing Cup

Jessel Magsayo of the BTC Boxing Club was chosen as the Best Boxer of the Tournament during the finals of the three day Mandaue City Interclub Amateur Boxing Tournament also billed as the 2nd Mayor Jonas C. Cortes Cup.

Magsayo handily won the championship of the 46 kg class Group A beating Danlou Codilla of the Taroja Boxing Club 3-0. The winners were awarded gold medals while the second and third placers were given the customary silver and bronze medals respectively. The tournament was held at the Mandaue City Plaza Square from April 16 to 18.

The other winners were Mark Vincent Bernaldez of the Ebalang Boxing Club in the 57 kg. division beating Rodel Wenceslao of the Phil-Aust Gym 3-0, Baselio Sultan of the Ebalang Boxing Club winning 3-0 over Patrick Gulani of the Pagsabungan Boxing Club in the 54 kg category.

Christian Apawan of the Ebalang Boxing Club beat Jared Payao of the Omega Boxing Club 3-0 in the 52 kg class, Joedel Talle of the Taroja Boxing Club won the 50 kg class by 3-0 over Bermar Espina of the Flores Boxing Club.

Jack Tepora of the Omega Boxing Club beat Bernard Torres of the BTC Boxing Club 3-0 in the 48 kg category, Epord Pesales of the Sanai Boxing Club won the 46 kg Group B over Cherwellan Cantel of the Gastador Boxing Club 3-0 and Mark Kevin Sorene of the Flores Boxing Club won by RSC in the 2nd round over Wendel Plaresan of the Pagsabungan Boxing Club in the 44 kg class.

Kevin Jake Cataraja of the Taroja Boxing Club won 3-0 over Benjie Manatad of the Sanai Boxing Club in the 42 kg class, Raymund Namocatcat won by RSC in the first round over Lingcol Lumelis of the Gastador Boxing Club in the 40 kg category, Margarito Moya of the Sanai Boxing club won the 38 kg class, beating Kenneth Gentallan of the BTC Boxing Club 3-0.

Orville King Olaivar of the BTC Boxing Club won 3-0 over Bryan Remedio of the Taroja Boxing Club in the 36 kg class, John Kenneth Dinoy of the Ebalang Boxing Club won 3-0 over John Lloyd Trasporte of the Gastodor Boxing Club in the 36 kg category, Jeffrey Stella of the Phil-Aust Boxing Club won 3-0 over Johnriel Jecong of the Flores Boxing Club in the 32 kg category, Rhezon Tarona of the Phil-Aust Boxing Club won over Ramel Tunacao of the Flores Boxing Club in the 30 kg category, and Raymund Rama of the Phil-Aust Boxing Club won the 28 kg category 3-0 over Ariel Sibay of the Flores Boxing Club.

Ramel Casanares of the Welbeth Boxing Club beat Richard Rama of the Phil-Aust Boxing Club 3-0 in the 26 kg class, Jomar Caspe of the Welbeth Boxing Club won 3-0 over Rarein Rama of the Phil-Aust Boxing Club in the 24 kg class and John Nino Vega of the Flores Boxing Club won 2-1 over Gerry Sereno, Jr. also from the Flores Boxing Club in the 20 kg category.

The event was organized by the local government officials of Mandaue City, the Mandaue City Sports Commission with assistance from the ALA Gym of Cebu.
