
Rubilen Amit is Cebu?s Athlete of the Year

Billiards Queen Rubilen Amit was chosen as the Athlete of the Year by the Sportswriters Association of Cebu. She was honoured during the 28th SAC-SMB Cebu Sports Awards was held Thursday evening at the Casino Espa?ol de Cebu
Amit had an amazing year, winning the 2009 Women?s World Ten Ball Billiards Championship by beating Shin-mei Liu of Chinese-Taipei last June in Quezon City.
She then teamed up with Efren Reyes to win the World Mixed Doubles Ten Ball Classic by beating Charlie Williams and Eun Ji Park of Team Korea also on home soil.
Her winning streak continued during the 2009 Laos South East Asian Games where she won gold medals in the 8 and 9 ball singles competition.
We look forward to her winning more medals for the country in this year?s Asian Games.
The Sportswriters Association of Cebu ( SAC-SMB ) Sports Awards is an annual event, sponsored by San Miguel Beer, where athletes based in Cebu are given citations for their achievements at the national and international level.
Other awardees include Edward Hayco as Sportsman of the Year. Hayco and the Dancesport Team of Cebu were responsible for setting a new Guiness World Record for the largest dance class. Multi-titled table tennis coach Jessica Jawad-Honoridez was given an ORLACSAN Award for her acts of kindness towards athletes and coaches hit by devastating typhoons last year. Eugene dela Cerna was given a posthumous award for his contribution to the development of Cebu volleyball. Z?The Dream? Gorres, who is undergoing rehab due to residual neurologic deficits after undergoing emergency brain surgery in Las Vegas was a ?Presidential Awardee.? Antonio L. Aldeguer, who was the guest speaker, paid tribute to the fallen boxer who has touched countless lives because of his courage.
