Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico -- The results of the official weight in conducted by Boxeo de Gala and Mexican boxing authorities for the main combatants for tomorrow’s fight card at the Coliseo Olympico are as follows:
Rodel Mayol, …………..107.5 lbs.
Omar Nino Romero…….108 lbs.
Mayol (26-4-1, 20K0) defends his WBC Junior Flyweight Title against Omar Nino Romero (28-3-2, 20KO) who previously held the same crown. This will be the first defense for Mayol who won the crown via a stunning 2nd round KO of Edgar Sosa at Tuxla Gutierrez, Chiapas, Mexico last November 2009.
Mayol was trained at the Wildcard Gym of Freddie Roach in Hollywood by the very capable Jesse Arevalo with the help of Morai Quijano, a former trainer at the ALA Gym in Cebu.
The Mayol-Nino fight will be televised via PPV together with the Marvin Sonsona-Wilfredo Vasquez, Jr fight emanating from Puerto Rico.
The weigh-in was held under the hot noon sun at a plaza in front of the gorgeous Filharmonica Theater, a historic landmark in Guadalajara.
Since it was open to the public people crowded the weigh scale making it difficult at best for the press to take decent photos. But that is typical in these parts of the world and that makes it fun.
Right after stepping off the scale, Mayol and the Team went under a group of trees so Mayol can have his late lunch. A crowd of photographers and television people followed him asking question about the fight, the food and many other things. Even Lira Mayol was not spared by the television gal. She too got on TV.
