
AEROFLOT UPDATE: So draws Timofeev, stays within striking distance

Filipino Grandmaster Wesley So (ELO 2656) drew with the black pieces against Artyom Timofeev (ELO 2652) of Russia in the seventh round of the 2010 Aeroflot Open Tournament in Moscow.
So utilized a Slav defensive setup and the game was drawn after 21 moves. The Pinoy prodigy has 4.5 points and trails the leaders by half a point going into the 8th round.
The 25 year old Timofeev previously won the Russian Cup for Men 2007 and the Moscow Open A 2008.
There are five players with 5 points: Ian Nepomniattchi, Boris Savchenko, Qiang Liem Le, Ngoc Truongson Nguyen and Boris Grachev.
Laylo played black and lost against Alexei Iljushin (ELO 2551) of Russia. Laylo (ELO 2556) still has only half a point and is languishing at the bottom. The tournament is a nine round Swiss format and with two rounds left, So is still within striking distance.
