AEROFLOT UPDATE: So wins, Laylo draws

Filipino GM?s Wesley So and Darwin Laylo played against Russian opponents Friday night in the fourth round of the Aeroflot Open 2010 Tournament in Moscow, Russia.

GM So (ELO 2656) played the white pieces against GM Aleksandr Rakhmanov (ELO 2591) and won after 35 moves of a Sicilian defense. So pinned the Russian?s Queen and took it on his 29th move.

The 16 year old prodigy has 2.5 points and is a point behind the two Vietnamese GM?s currently leading the tournament - Ngoc Truongson Nguyen who beat So last Thursday and Qiang Liem Le.

So will play black against GM Hrant Melkumyam (ELO 2583) of Armenia today.

So drew his first game against GM Ehsan Ghaem Maghami of Iran and won against GM Dmitry Bocharov of Russia then lost to Vietnamese GM Nguyen.

Laylo (ELO 2556) played white against IM Alexandre Danin (ELO 2519) and the game was drawn after 35 moves. The game ended in a bishop of opposite colors endgame and enabled Laylo to score half a point.

Laylo suffered three straight losses against Azerbaijani GM?s Rauf Mamedov and Eltaj Safarli and Austrian GM Markus Ragger.

Laylo will play white against Spanish grandmaster Josep Manu Lopez Martinez (ELO 2593) today.
