IBF jr.flyweight champion has a Q and A with Cebu boxing journalists after the official weigh-in for his title defense against Carlos Tamara of Colombia Friday morning at the Manila Hotel.
Q: Will this fight be better than the Ulises Solis fight?
Viloria: It will be hard to top the Solis fight. It was a great knockout. It was a dramatic fight.
Q: Will we expect a knockout?
Viloria: There will be fireworks. I can go twelve rounds against any fighter. If the KO presents itself then I will take it.
Q: You?ve been a light flyweight for a long time. What is your secret in maintaining your weight?
Viloria : Eating right, no drugs, no drinking, no smoking and exercise. Most boxers have to shed 30 to 40 lbs. for a fight. I have been 108 pounds since I was 14 years old. It is tough to make the weight but with the right lifestyle and a nutritionist I can make 108. My fianc?e, who is a nurse, also helps me with my nutrition.
Q: So you?ll continue fighting at 108?
Viloria: Yes, I am still comfortable but I would also like to challenge flyweight champ Koki Kameda of Japan.
Q: Is there really a conflict between you and Nonito Donaire,Jr because he asked your trainer Robert Garcia to train him for his upcoming fight?
Viloria: No, I agree with it. I am happy for Robert. He has been getting offers from other fighters like Antonio Margarito to train them. I was just misquoted and the whole thing got blown out of proportion. I have no conflict with Donaire.
Q: Where did you train for this fight?
Viloria: At the La Colonia Boxing Gym in Oxnard, California. Famous fighters like Fernando Vargas trained there. I have trained for three and a half months because I was supposed to fight last December.
Q: I saw you at the Parking lot at the Alameda Swapmeet. Now you?re a champion again. How did it feel? ( question made by Philboxing?s Dong Secuya)
Viloria: It felt really strange back then. I used to fight at Staples Center and the MGM Grand then I found myself fighting in a parking lot. I kept asking myself, what am I doing here? But it made me hungry for the title again.
Q: You?ve talked about fighting WBO champ Ivan Calderon and unifying the titles?would you do that even if it means fighting WBC champ Rodel Mayol?
Viloria: It depends on what fight sells. Boxing is a business. People thought Mayweather-Pacquiao would sell but it never happened. Who I will be fighting depends on what the fans want.
The champ gamely posed for pictures with the sportswriters after the interview. He will face fight Carlos Tamara tomorrow Saturday A.M. Manila Time at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City. Undercard bouts start at 8 AM. It will be televised on the same day on a slightly delayed basis on Solar sports and Solar TV.
