Manila - IBF junior flyweight champ Brian “The Hawaiian Punch” Viloria easily made the 108 lb limit on his first try while his challenger Carlos “El Olimpico” Tamara of Colombia has to shed half a pound before making the official weight limit during the official weigh-in Friday morning at the Manila Hotel.
Their 12 round championship battle will be on January 23 Saturday morning Manila time at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
The fight between WBO minimuweight champ Donnie Nietes and Jesus Silvestre is a non-title fight set at a weight of 107 lbs. Silvestre made the weight limit but Nietes has to shed a pound before making the contracted weight. Their fight could not be sanctioned as an official title bout in time for this fight card as Nietes’ original opponents suddenly withdrew with just a few weeks before the fight. But Nietes was still upbeat and being a true professional will treat this like a title contest.
An interesting undercard is the return of “The Executioner” Jimrex Jaca after a one year layoff. He will face Ramadhan Weriu of Indonesia in a jr.welterweight bout.
R.P. Lightweight champion Jason Pagara will face Eddy Comaro of Indonesia in a ten round bout. Jr. welterweight Dennis Laurente, who has been fighting in the U.S., will face Leiwonkorn Chuwatana of Thailand.
Dodie Boy Penalosa, the son of former two division world champ Dodie Penalosa, will make his professional debut against Anthony Balubar in a six round contest.
The other undercard bouts include Dondon Rafol vs Rey Las Pinas, Samuel Apuya vs Denver “The Excitement” Cuello, Daryl Pucdol vs Jay Solmiano, Mike Randy Petalcorin vs Marlon Tapalos, Jose Ocampo vs Joselito Campana, Brian Diano vs John Mark Aploniario and Ivan Soriano vs Jomar Tumbaga.
Philippine TV coverage will be on Solar Sports and Solar TV.
