WBO minimumweight world champ Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes will be getting a new opponent for his fourth title defense this January 23, 2010 at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City. Nietes (25W (14 KO's)-1L -3 D) will face Jesus "Negrito" Silvestre (15W (KO 12)- L1) of Nayarit, Mexico.
Silvestre won the interim WBC Youth minimumweight title by split decision over countryman Julio Cesar Felix in November 2008. Seven months prior to this fight he suffered his lone career loss, on points in a six round fight, over Jose Rodriguez. Silvestre has never fought outside of Mexico but has won by KO in four of his last five wins.
Nietes was originally scheduled to face Ivan 'Polito' Meneses but the Mexican withdrew from the scheduled bout. He was in Silvestre's hometown last September when he made his third successful title defense, a twelve round split decision victory over Manuel Vargas.
This fight card is headlined by Brian Viloria making the second defense of his IBF lt. Flyweight title against Carlos Tamara of Colombia. Jimrex Jaca, another Cebu based fighter, will also be fighting in the undercard.
