
Melindo-Fuentes Sparring Session in Summit Fight Night Series

Twelve exciting amateur bouts were featured last Sunday evening at the Gaisano Country Mall Carpark in Talamban, Cebu City as part of the continuing SUMMIT Drinking Water Fight Night Amateur Series. The evening?s festivities was capped by a three rounds ?no-holds barred? sparring session between two top pro boxers of the ALA Gym of Cebu - WBO Asia Pacific minimumweight and WBA Intercontinental lt. flyweight champion Milan "Milenyo" Melindo and RP Flyweight champion Rocky Fuentes.
Melindo and Fuentes displayed their impressive boxing skills and exchanged heavy shots non-stop much to the delight of the appreciative crowd.
The undefeated 21year old Melindo (19-0, 5 KO?s) is ranked # 1 by the WBO, # 3 by the WBA and IBF and # 5 by the WBC in the 105lbs division. He will move up in weight to challenge the 22 year old WBC Youth Intercontinental Flyweight Champion, Anthony Villareal of the United States on January 14, 2010 at the Cebu Waterfront Hotel and Casino.
Fuentes on the other hand is scheduled to headline the SUMMIT Fight Night Series this coming Sinulog 2010 at the Gaisano Country Mall.
A string of impressive victories by Melindo will bring him closer to a world title challenge against either the WBA minimumweight champion Roman Gonzales of Nicaragua or WBC Champion Oleydong Sithsanerchai of Thailand. AJ Banal will face Cecilio Santos of Mexico as the co-main event of the Waterfront Fight Card billed as ?Bakbakan sa Sinulog?.
In the amateur bouts, Jomar Gaspe of Cabancalan Elem. School beat Bebe Rama of the Phil-Aust Boxing Club 3-0 in the 23 kg. division, Richard Rama of the Phil-Aust Boxing club beat Vicente Seos-e,Jr. of Cabanclan Elem. School 3-0 in the 25 kg. division, Phil-Aust Boxing Club?s Rason Tarona won 3-0 over Rommel Tunacao of the Flores Boxing Club in the 28 kg. division.
Jeffrey Estrella of the Phil-Aust Boxing club beat Melmark Dignos of the Flores Boxing Club 3-0 in the 32 kg. division. Jason Tunacao won by DQ over Welmark Dignos in the 42 kg. division.
Reoxyl Tabogon won by RSC at 1:09 of the 4th round over Junjun Britana of the Sta.Cruz gym of Talisay City. John Mark Yabut of Kalibo, Aklan won 2-1 over Ryan Canillas of Toledo City in the 49 kg. category.
In the 50 kg. class Michael Romarate of Cabancalan National High School won 3-0 over Joedel Talle of Ibabao,Mandaue City.
In the two 54 kg. bouts Joseph Ebalang of Cagayan de Oro beat Junjun Sultan of Zamboanga City 3-0 and Zalde Aroa of Bantayan,Cebu beat Jovert Alvarez of Talisay City 3-0.
For the 60 kg. category Robert Etorma of Sibonga, Cebu won over Ryan Jade Canillas of Toledo City 3-0 and Mark Bernaldez of Butuan City beat Jocel Gestopa of Batang Lacion, Cebu 3-0. The event was open to the public. Free Complimentary tickets were be given away to fight fans who were able to answer questions related to the "Bakbakan sa Sinulog? boxing card.
