Former two division world champion Gerry Penalosa (54-7-2, 36 KOs) has shifted into second gear in his training preparations for his upcoming WBO eliminator against another former world champion Eric Morel (41-2, 21 KOs) on February 13, 2010 in Las Vegas. The winner of this fight will earn the right to fight for the WBO bantamweight championship currently held by Fernando Montiel of Mexico.
Penalosa called this writer this morning and said that he has been informed that the fight has been finalized. He said that he has been sparring with featherweights Jonel Alivio and Michael Farenas, who holds the World Professional Boxing Federation Featherweight (WPBF) title.
For the past week, Penalosa has been on television as a guest on sports shows like Punch out and NBN Sports Roundup. He has responded to the verbal jabs being thrown by Morel.
Penalosa?s response can be summed up in one statement: ?I have faced better fighters than Morel.?
