NOKIA FIGHT LIVE: LUIS RAMOS, JR SOUNDLY BEATS FAVELA AND REMAINS UNDEFEATED

Downtown Los Angeles:- Last night, at the Club Nokia across the famed Staples Center, Golden Boy Promotions held its regular Fight Night at the Club Nokia. The event was televised live on Versus TV.

Undefeated junior welterweight Luis Ramos Jr of nearby City of Santa Ana faced veteran Christian Favela of Los Mochis, Mexico on the main event for the evening. All throughout the 6-round fight, Ramos repeatedly scored when he was slugging from a distance. Conversely, Favela was more successful when they fought at close quarters.

Ramos however was busier and appeared to have more success scoring hits than the wily veteran.

In the end, all three judges saw the fight the same way and jotted down identical scores of 60-54 all in favor of Ramos.

With the victory, Ramos improved to 13-0-0 (7KO) while Favela dropped to 16-21-6 (9KO). Ramos won the Quaker State Oil belt for his efforts.

Karl Dargan wins.


Charles Huerta wins.

In the main supporting bout, which was a battle between lightweights, Karl Dargan of Philadelphia, PA won via a 6-roundunanimous decision over Rynell Griffin of Bridge City, LA.

Dargan, responding to prompts from his corner kept his distance by utilizing his longer reach. He repeatedly scored from long distance. Griffin on the other hand tried to make it a fight by forcing the issue on the inside where he had some success. Dargan however clearly landed more effective punches and the judges saw the fight with the following scores: 59-55, 58-56, 59-55, all for Dargan.

With the win Dargan remained undefeated at 5-0-0-(2KO) while Griffin is now 5-2-1 (1KO).

The third televised event featured featherweight Charles Huerta of the City of Paramount versus Rodrigo Aranda of Las Vegas. Aranda had more fight experience than Huerta and he used all of that as he battled Huerta almost punch for punch. Just about the end of round four, Referee Dunkin deducted a point from Aranda for hitting behind the head.

The fight ended with a unanimous decision for the younger Huerta. The scores were 59-54, 58-55 and 57-56. Huerta thus improved to 12-1-0-(6KO) while Aranda dropped to 8-11-2 (2KO)

In the curtain raiser, lightweight Eric Godoy of East LA who was making his first pro fight battled Javier Solis of Oxnard, CA. The fight between the two beginners was sloppy at best. Godoy scored a KD on Solis just about the end of round one.

In spite of the break between rounds, Solis in seem did not recover well from the KD. Godoy sensed that and on round two he repeatedly pummeled Solis leading referee Denkin to end the fight at 2:22.

Rony Rios, the undefeated youngster from Santa Ana did not waste much time in finishing journeyman Manuel Sarabia of Culiacan, Mexico. Sarabia has a total of 55 fights going on to tonight’s bout. But all of his experiences did not help him in any way against the aggressive youngster. In fact, he did not even appear to have put up a fight.

With the win Rios is now 7-0-0-(3KO) while Sarabia , 16-30-9 (10KO)

In the TV swing bout, Juan Sandoval of San Bernardino who is making his pro debut KO’d winless Victor Martinez (0-2-0) of Los Angeles at 2:22 of the first round.

In the final fight of the night Jr. Welterweight Art Hovanessian of Glendale (9-0-1, 3KO)

KO’d veteran Baudel Cardenas of Los Mochis, Mexico. The end came at 1:27 of round 5.
