The main protagonists for the “FRIDAY NIGHTS LIVE” boxing series made weight and stated their readiness to rumble this Friday evening September 25 at the Cebu Coliseum. The boxers were guests at the Cebu SCOOP Forum held at the Baseline Restaurant in Cebu City hosted by Bobby Inoferio.
WBO Intercontinental SuperBantamweight Champion Ramie Laput will headline the event in a ten round non-title bout against Anthony Eric Macas of Lanao del Sur. Macas will be substituting for Phil Angcamor who suffered an injury.
Laput is highly ranked by the WBO and is in line for shot at the world title. There are talks that current champ Juan Manuel Lopez will move up in weight and thus the title will be left vacant. But Laput said that he is ready to fight anyone, even Lopez himself, for a world title.
Laput won the WBO intercontinental superbantamweight belt last May when Thailand's Ratanachai Sor Vorapin threw a roundhouse kick in the 11th round and was disqualified in the 11th round. Laput was way ahead in the judges’ scores in that infamous Cebu Coliseum bout.
This fight card also features Nino Suelo of the Yraola Gym of Manila vs. Fernando Lumacad of the ABA Gym of Digos City and Filipino-Australian Ariel Barotillo vs. Joy Pol of Leyte.
Ariel Barotillo is the brother of Arnel Barotillo, from Australia via Catanduanes, who lost to Manny Pacquiao by 4th round KO in an IBF international superbantamweight title bout 9 years ago in Manila. Barotillo retired in 2002 after losing his rematch with Japanese Manabu Fukushima and started training boxers including his brother, Ariel.
The younger Barotillo suffered injuries due to an accident and forced him to take a break from fighting. He fought last June in Australia and had a technical draw against Tom Szeremi.
In the undercards Jose Ocampo will face Jovan Atab Labiogo (featherweights 6 rounds), Edward Penerio vs. John Rey Canete (light flyweights 6 rounds), Ivan Soriano vs. Ronelle Sosan lt.flyweights 4 rounds), Anthony Sabalde vs. Bernard Salisinas (lt.flyweights 4 rounds) and Jerwin Ancajas vs. Jayme Papa (lt. flyweights) 4 rounds. Ticket prices are at P 100.00 lower box and P 250.00 for ringside. Fight time is 7 PM.
The press conference was attended by WBO Vice Pres. Leon Panoncillo, Promoter Sammy Gello-ani, WBO superflyweight titlist Marvin Sonsona, trainers Jun Agrabio and Nonito Donaire and Rolando Mendoza of the GAB. Both Gello-ani and Panoncillo emphasized the importance of finding more talent here in the country. The boxers also need to do their part – train hard and win. SGG Promotions will be having FRIDAYS NIGHT LIVE as a regular series and the next card will be on October 2 in Dalaguete, Cebu
