
LOPEZ, SONSONA WEIGH-IN SET TODAY

Filipino Marvin "Marvelous" Sonsona and WBO superfly champion Jose "Carita" Lopez will meet for the last time before their 12-round showdown on Sunday when they take part in the official weigh-in and final press conference today in Canada (tonight RP time).
Sonsona, 19, will attempt to become the youngest world boxing champion in Philippine history when he challenges the 37-year-old Lopez for his title at the Casino Rama in Rama, Ontario, Canada.
Sunday's bout will be telecast by Solar Sports as well as GMA-7.
The undefeated Sonsona (13-0, 12 KO's), fighting out of General Santos City, has trained long and hard in Manila prior to his departure for Canada where he was joined by trainers Nonito Donaire Sr and Jhun Agrabio, as well as manager Rajan Yraola and promoter Sammy Gello-ani.
"I know he has experience behind him, but I am younger, hungry, and has physical advantages over him," said the taller Sonsona.
Lopez (39-7-2, 32 KO's), a native of Trujillo Alto, PR, has also indicated his readiness to take on a much younger foe who is touted by many to have the demolishing power of Manny Pacquiao and the style of Nonito Donaire Jr.
?I can tell you that I have come very well prepared for this fight. I know that Sonsona has youth in his favor but I see myself knocking him out,? boasted Lopez at yesterday's media conference where the two fighters met for the first time.
WBO Asia Pacific chairman Leon Panoncillo, who will be at ringside for the fight, has pointed out that should Sonsona defeat the veteran Lopez, this will open the door for the youngster for big-money fights possibly against the elite names in the superfly and bantamweight division.
Standing at 5'7, observers believe that Sonsona has what it takes to become a multi-division champion especially if he wins his first world title tomorrow.
