Can Lumacad handle Arce?s Latin Fury?

Lumacad.

Fernando Lumacad will get the biggest break of his three year pro career when he faces Jorge ?Travieso? Arce of Mexico this June 27 on Top Rank's Latin Fury 9' championship boxing event at the Boardwalk Hall at Caesars in Atlantic City.

Arce is one of the most popular boxers in the world because of his all offense reckless style of fighting. His ring monicker means ?mischievous? and it showed two years ago when he almost came to blows with Gerry Penalosa when their paths crossed on their way out of the Mandalay Bay after the Pacquiao-Barrera rematch. Arce was reported to have challenged the two division Filipino champ to a fight.

Arce has previously beaten Filipino boxers Juanito Rubillar and Joma Gamboa. He will be getting another Filipino opponent this time but it won?t be Penalosa.

The 23 year old Lumacad (19-1-2, 7 Kos) currently holds the WBO interim Oriental flyweight title. He fights out of Digos City and managed by American Boxing Academy (ABA) founder Ken Smith. He is currently in Los Angeles with chief second Glenn Salazar training for the biggest fight of his life.

Lumacad?s first attempt at the WBO Oriental title ended in a draw against Thai Suriyan Por Chockchai last October in Naga, Cebu. He won the title against Dondon Jimenea in Digos, Davao del Sur two months later. This will be Lumacad?s first U.S. bout. The Arce vs. Lumacad super flyweight fight will replace the Fernando Montiel vs. Eric Morel title fight. Montiel, the WBO bantamweight champion from Mexico, is out with a hand injury.
This will be the 29 year old Arce's first fight since he lost his WBA super flyweight belt to Victor Darchinyan in a unification fight on Feb 7 in Anaheim, Calif. Arce, has a record of 51-5-1 with 39 KO?s and has held the WBO and WBC light flyweight titles, interim WBC world flyweight title and interim WBA world superflyweight title.

Arce turned pro in 1996 and has seen more than his share of ring wars. He owes his popularity to many bloody contests and has demonstrated his warrior spirit several times. Lumacad is a huge underdog in this fight. But if he has a glimmer of hope it will be that Arce has fought so many brutal contests and boxing pundits were raising the question whether the Mexican still has enough gas left in the tank prior to his fight with Darchinyan. He looked like he got hit by a truck after being stopped in the 11th round by the Australian Raging Bull.

Lumacad will have to go through the proverbial eye of the needle in this contest. Just like any recent Arce fight, this will be bloody one.
