The Tabunok Sports Complex of Talisay City, Cebu hosted a night of exciting brawls with five pro bouts featuring up and coming four round professional boxers last Saturday evening.
Edison Serrano of the Omega Boxing Gym won a narrow unanimous decision over Fabian Manzano of the Sta. Cruz Gym of Talisay in their superbantamweight contest. Manzano was knocked down in round two but tried to rally back. Furious give and take action ensued but Serrano was able to hand on to his lead. The scorecards read 38-37 for all three judges.
Ritchie Abapo of Talisay scored a stunning first round knockout win over Johnrel Rosales of the Phil.Aust gym of Mandaue City in their superflyweight contest. Official time: 1: 45 of the opening round.
Minimumweights Jason Casimiro and Sari Canonigo battled toe to toe and took turns staggering each other for four brutal rounds. Canonigo, from the Sta.Cruz gym of Talisay, charged like a raging bull from the opening bell but Casimiro, from the Omega Boxing gym, tried to rally in the third. Canonigo continued to press forward and took the bout by unanimous decision. The scores: 39-37, 40-36,39-37.
Minimumweights Gerson Mercado of the Omega Boxing gym and Juan Purisima of the Atan Guardo Stable fought to a unanimous draw. Purisima landed crisp combinations in the 1st but Mercado came back in the second as Purisima faded fast. They continued to trade hard shots in the last two rounds. All judges scored it 38-38.
Flyweight Erwin Ray Yano won by 4th round TKO over a bleeding Renante Noblefranca. Yano, from the Phil-Aust gym, repeatedly scored with one-two combos. Noblefranca staggered Yano in the third but started to bleed profusely from the nose in the 4th prompting the stoppage.
The event was started with ten pairs of amateur bouts with boxers from various gyms of the cities of Mandaue and Talisay. Former WBA flyweight champion Bernabe Villacampa of Talisay City graced the event organized by the Talisay City Amateur Boxing Association (TACABA) and the Talisay Sports Commission.
