THE BRAVEHEART WARRIORS ARE SET TO GO

Canoga Park, CA:- Vice-Governor Manny Pinol of North Cotobato, the patriarch of the leading boxing stable in Mindanao, Braveheart Boxing indeed know what is best for his wards, Glen Gonzales and Jundy Maraon.

First he signed them up with Top Rank Promotions so they can have more opportunities to fight in the US. But that did not happen except the one that Gonzales had and won at the Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas under the Ricardo Torres-Kendall Holt II fight months ago.

After several months Pinol asked and got the boys released from their Top Rank contract. The release however did not mean that they can not fight for Top Rank anymore. It just simply meant that Top Rank is not obligated to find fights for them.

Conventional thinking dictates that when such incidents happen, the boxers are sent home as it is very expensive to make them stay and train in the US.

But Pinol is not a conventional thinker. He is far better than that and he knew exactly what is good for his wards.

First, he sent them to stay and train at Salinas, California in spite knowing that they do not have concrete schedules to fight in the US. Then he continually scouted around for promotions for which his boys can fight. It was not easy but he did finally landed a fight for them.

The promoter? Top Rank, the same outfit that signed the boys months ago.

Apparently Top Rank needed boxers for a promotion that is scheduled on Telefutura, a Spanish TV Channel in Los Angeles. Thus, they called Pinol and ask him to get the boys ready.

Fortunately, Gonzales and Maraon are in constant training, thus on a short notice they made themselves available.

Gonzales and Maraon will be part of a promotion headlined by Urbano Antillo, one of Southern California?s raising stars.

Part of the preparation for the boys included a thorough medical examination as required by the State of California Athletic Commission. Through this writer, the boys had that done yesterday by Dr Richard Gluckman in San Pedro, California.
Another involved getting them custom made mouthguards. ?I want the boys to use mouthguards similar to what Manny Pacquiao uses? Pinol told this writer.
So he drove the boys all the way from Salinas, a good 5 and a half hour drive to our offices so we can fit them with custom made mouthguards.

With that hopefully the boys will be well protected as they fight tomorrow,

Friday, December 12th under the Tent at the Alameda Swap Meet at Maywood, California.

PhilBoxing will of course be there to cover the fight and will post the results and some photos on its website as soon as the fight is over.

BREAKING NEWS:
As we were writing this story, Vice-Gov. Pinol called to update us with exciting news about his Braveheart Boxing Stable. He told us that Braveheart has reached a preliminary agreement with the All-Star Boxing Promotions of Whittier, California to stage a series of bouts between Braveheart Boxers and those tied up with All Star Promotions. Modesty aside, it was us who connected him with All Star Boxing, therefore we are as excited as he was about these recent developments that will benefit Filipino boxers. The first card by the new partnership is scheduled in June 2009.

Braveheart boxers Glenn Gonzales (L) and Jundy Maraon (R) with trainer Noli Pinol pose at the clinic of PhilBoxing's Dr Ed de la Vega after the fighter's mouthpieces were done.
